Chimney Repairs & Lead Work in Faversham

Chimneys and the joints where a roof meets a wall are where most leaks begin. We repair chimneys and renew lead flashings, valleys and aprons across Faversham, so the weak points of your roof are properly sealed.

Chimney repairs

A chimney stack takes more weather than any other part of the house. We repoint failed mortar joints, re-bed or replace loose and cracked chimney pots, renew the mortar flaunching that holds the pots in place, fit cowls and caps, and replace the lead flashings around the base of the stack. If a pot is loose or leaning, we can remove it safely.

Lead work

Lead is used wherever a roof meets something else: around chimneys, along the wall of an extension, in the valleys where two slopes meet, and around dormers, rooflights and bay windows. Properly fitted lead lasts for decades. We replace split, lifted or missing lead with new flashings, soakers, aprons and valley linings, dressed and fixed to allow for movement.

Signs of trouble

Damp or staining on a chimney breast or along the wall where an extension roof joins the house. Mortar or pieces of brick on the roof or ground. Lead that has lifted, split or pulled out of the brickwork. A chimney pot that is visibly cracked or leaning. Flashings patched with tape or sealant are usually a short-term fix that needs doing properly.

What affects the price

The height and position of the chimney, whether scaffolding is needed, how much lead is being replaced and the condition of the brickwork. We'll inspect it, send you photos and give you a free quote.

Chimney Repairs & Lead Work: common questions

Why is my chimney breast damp?

The most common causes are failed lead flashing where the chimney meets the roof, cracked flaunching or pots letting rain into the stack, and worn mortar joints. We check all three and show you photos of what we find.

Can you remove a loose or unused chimney pot?

Yes. We remove loose or damaged chimney pots and can cap and vent the flue if the chimney is no longer used, which keeps rain out while letting the stack breathe.

How long does lead flashing last?

Correctly fitted lead flashing typically lasts for many decades. It usually fails early because pieces were fitted too long and split with movement, or because the fixings into the brickwork have come loose.

Do you need scaffolding to repair a chimney?

It depends on the height and position of the stack and the work needed. We'll tell you when we look at it and make clear in your quote what access is needed.
