New Roofs & Re-Roofing in Faversham
When a roof has reached the end of its life, repairs stop being good value. We strip and replace complete roofs on houses and extensions in Faversham, and we'll tell you honestly whether you're at that point or whether a repair will do.
When a roof needs replacing
Signs include tiles or slates slipping in several places at once, widespread cracked or crumbling tiles, a roofline that sags, felt that has perished and torn when you look from inside the loft, and repairs that are needed more and more often. One or two of these in one area usually means a repair. Across the whole roof, it usually means the covering or the battens have had their day.
What a re-roof involves
The old tiles or slates, battens and felt are stripped. We check the rafters and replace any timber that has rotted. A new breathable membrane and new battens go on, then the roof is re-covered. Ridges, hips, valleys and verges are finished, lead flashings are renewed where the roof meets walls and chimneys, and the old materials are cleared away.
Choosing materials
We'll talk you through the options that suit your house, your budget and the look of the street: concrete or clay tiles, slate, or traditional Kent peg tiles on older properties. Where existing tiles are sound, they can sometimes be set aside and re-used, which helps a period roof keep its character.
What affects the price
The size and shape of the roof, the materials you choose, scaffolding and access, the condition of the timbers, and extras such as chimneys, rooflights, fascias and guttering. We visit, measure and give you a free quote with no obligation.
What customers say
“Could not recommend a better roofer than Louis. From start to finish Louis was professional and kept me updated on the progress. He left no mess and cleaned up and took pictures of the work done. Very reasonable priced. If I have any further issues with my roof I’ll be sure to go back to Louis”
New Roofs & Re-Roofs: common questions
How do I know if I need a new roof or just a repair?
If the problems are in one area, a repair is usually enough. If tiles are failing across the whole roof, the felt has perished or repairs keep coming round, replacement is normally better value. We'll inspect it, show you photos and give you an honest recommendation.
Can you re-use my existing tiles?
Sometimes. If the tiles are sound and it's the felt and battens underneath that have failed, tiles can often be set aside and re-laid, with replacements blended in where needed. This is common on older clay tile and Kent peg roofs.
Do you roof new extensions?
Yes. We roof new extensions, both pitched and flat, and can work alongside your builder.
How much does a new roof cost?
Every roof is priced individually because size, shape, materials and access vary so much. We'll visit, measure up and give you a free quote before you commit to anything.
